The Guernsey County Sheriff’s Office, in coordination with the Cambridge Fire Department and the Franklin County Bomb Squad, responded to a report of loud explosions just outside the City of Cambridge on the evening of January 5, 2026.
At approximately 10:55 p.m., authorities received a call reporting explosions that were described as sounding similar to dynamite near the area of Campbell Street. Deputies and Cambridge Fire Department personnel responded to the scene and conducted an initial assessment of the area. During the investigation, fireworks and suspected explosive materials were located on the property.
Due to the nature of the items discovered, the Franklin County Bomb Squad was requested to respond. The Bomb Squad arrived on scene during the early morning hours of January 6, 2026, and safely conducted a search of the residence. One 74 year old male was taken into custody without incident and is pending charges. The residence was subsequently cleared and secured.
The Franklin County Bomb Squad later transported the recovered explosive materials to a secure location, where they were safely detonated under controlled conditions with assistance from local personnel.
There is no ongoing threat to the public related to this incident. The Guernsey County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the matter, and additional information will be released if appropriate.
