Sheriff Jeffrey Paden announced on Friday September 27, 2019 that three subjects remain incarcerated in the county jail following “a busted theft ring”. Sheriff Paden says that John W. Ray age 54 , and Lori J. Hutchison , age 37, both of Kipling , have been charged with Breaking and Entering, a felony of the fifth degree. Carl “Butch” Hoopingarner , 55 of Cambridge was arrested on a probation violation warrant issued by Guernsey County Common Pleas Probation Officers. Sheriff Paden said that Ray and Hutchsion were taken into custody on Wednesday night at their home and Hoopingarner was arrested on Thursday afternoon at his Cambridge home.
The lead investigator , Sgt. Bill Patterson says that Ray and Hutchsion had been involved in nearly a dozen thefts around the county, primarily in the eastern part of the county over the past two months. Hoopingarner assisted the two in fencing the stolen goods. Sgt. Patterson said that most of the property has been recovered as a result of the ongoing investigation. He also said that several more charges are expected to be presented to the grand jury on the three.
